The successful roll-out of Akufo-Addo’s flagship project, the Free Senior High School policy obviously belies the expectations of many Ghanaians who felt a vague uneasiness about how possible it would be for the concept to be actualized on such a large scale.
The announced implementation of Free Senior High School has sent uproarious jubilation across the length and breadth of the country. Parents and their would-be wards have trooped to the various schools in which their wards have been posted to. The testimonies coming from these visits are too good to be left unharnessed.
A parent whose child has been posted to Accra Girls Senior High School, Madam Cecilia Lomotey, had this to say when she accompanied her daughter to the school to ascertain for herself what was going on;
‘’The implementation of the Free Senior High School policy seems more like a dream than a reality! In fact, all this while, I was under the erroneous impression that it was just a message being used by Akufo-Addo and the NPP to win our votes. I never voted for them, anyway, but now I must admit that I was wrong. Politicians in the past promised to construct bridges at places where you couldn’t even find water. This Free SHS policy as promised by Nana Addo wasn’t one of them, as I can see now. We can only be grateful and ask God to bless President Akufo-Addo bountifully, and with long life! We are so happy!’’ Mrs Lomotey ended happily.
It is gradually sinking into the minds and hearts of many Ghanaians that the Free Senior High School policy was not a hoax as it was being propagated by the opposition National Democratic Congress. It has come to stay, and the level of commitment being shown by the Government of the day gives credence to the belief that the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia-led administration is resolute with its determination to see the successful implementation of the NPP’s flagship programme. Part of monies earmarked for the smooth commencement of the programme have since been released to the various second cycle schools.
This innovative product has garnered praises from people across the entire country. On Newsfile over the weekend, panellists, including Kofi Bentil, were full of praises for the implementation of the Free Senior High School policy, saying it is long overdue that the programme was rolled out.
Another parent, Ama Serwaa, whose son has been placed at Jachie/Pramso Senior High School was uncontrollable expressing her ecstasy over the Free SHS roll-out. She couldn’t believe her ears when she was told that all the fees needed to be paid had been taken care of by the Akufo-Addo government. Jubilant Ama Serwaa had this to say;
‘’They told us Akufo-Addo was lying to us about the Free SHS. They said he couldn’t fulfil that promise he made, but I came here, expecting to pay something, only to be told that all the bills have been taken care of by Akufo-Addo! I couldn’t ask for a better president than Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo!’’ Madam Ama Serwaa said, beaming with smiles.
The chorus being sung by parents is simply this; Free SHS has come to stay! Free SHS is Akufo-Addo, and Akufo-Addo is Free SHS!
